Cheap Ideas For Spring Break Travel

Spring Break EscapadesMost schools’ spring breaks, from K-12 to colleges and universities, occur in March but the dates can range from the end of February to late April. Some schools schedule their spring breaks to coincide with Easter and Passover.

For many college and university students spring break is a time to travel to the beach or other international destination for constant partying while others simply choose cities to cheaply travel to and relax.

To choose the right spring break destinations read about hot spots around the U.S. and rest of the world in travel magazines like Conde Nast Traveler, Budget Travel and Travel+Leisure.

Panama City BeachThe occurrence of spring break started gaining widespread popularity in the 1960s and peaked in the 1980s. During this time the most popular spring break destination was Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

By 1985 spring break parties were so out-of-hand that Ft. Lauderdale residents passed a series of party-restricting laws.

Since the 1980s other destinations have become popular place for students on spring break to travel to including other beach cities in Florida like Daytona Beach and Panama City Beach.

South Padre, Texas is also a recent popular destination. For more information on popular U.S. beach destinations read Florida International, Gulfshore Life and Budget Travel magazines.

BahamasInternational locations are also very popular among U.S. college students. The most popular destinations are in Mexico including Cancun and Acapulco; Cabo San Lucas, Barbados, Puerto Vallarta, Jamaica and the Bahamas are also popular.

Read Caribbean Travel & Life and Cruise Travel magazines for more information on these locations.

Three new spring travel trends have emerged in the last 10 to 15 years. These trends are adventure travel, alternative spring break and experimental travel.

Adventure travel includes traveling to various destinations and participating in activities like hiking, biking, scuba diving, rock climbing and multi-sport tours. Popular destinations for adventure travel are Colorado and Alaska in the U.S. and many other international locations like Egypt and China.

Adventure TravelTravel magazines like Backpacker, Women’s Adventure and National Geographic Adventure are great resources for making adventure travel reservations.

Alternative spring break is when a college student decides to travel to a destination to do community service. In the last few years many students have opted to travel to New Orleans to participate in the Hurricane Katrina clean-up or to other international cities in need.

In response to the desire for alternative spring break many travel magazines currently report on community service travel packages.

Experimental travel includes cultural activities like expeditions, wildlife tours and culinary tours. Travel magazines like Conde Nast Traveler and Travel+Leisure magazine often report on this popular new trend.
